5-Cent Franklin Issue - Number One

This folded letter to Philadelphia with the blue Dayton, Ohio circle date stamp is franked with a horizontal pair paying the "double rate". Note that the pen cancel which ties the stamps to the letter.
The use of the quill pen by the Post Office was legitimate,
as spelled out in the postal regulations of the era.
